My reaction would be shock because he did say he
would come and say good-bye beforehand but he just up and left. Also, as I read
the letter, it seems like that he and his parents are not the closet they could
be. I assume that because if they had been to would have been a lot harder for
him to just leave like he did. Also, he did not actually tell them what or
where he was and was going to go; therefore, I take that as him being done with
his family and not wanting to be seeing them for a while. As for him telling
his family he was going to disappear for a while, shows how much he wanted to
get away from his family. However, I also think it was a cry for help, that
Chris wanted his family to tell him no, to stay with them. I believe his
parents lost themselves in their wealth and ignore him; however, this is just
my prediction. At the time I would say his intention was to leave and maybe not
turn back, he sounds undecided.

A motivation
behind such a strong action could be the fact he was done getting everything
and being a spoiled child, maybe he wanted to give back to the underprivileged
by donating money. On the other hand however, he could just want to start over
fresh with his life and that was his way of cleaning his plate. Also, he could
be boarder line not all there in the head.
